Nearly two years ago I left the comfort of Will Charles Salon in Boston where I had trained and worked with some of the most talented people I know. It wasn’t easy! I loved my job and every single person I worked with. Aside from the commute, I looked forward to work every day and being on Newbury Street was exciting! A few times I was brought face to face with my favorite celebrities: From having a manicure next to Mark Walhberg, nearly bumping in to the Dali Lama while coming out of the Taj Hotel, chatting with Michael Uri in a trendy shop and crossing paths with Conan O’Brien while out to lunch. Honestly, these things just don’t happen in Tewksbury!
So you can imagine how difficult it was to give up my friends and co-workers and the excitement of city life for my little suite on Main Street in Tewksbury. I never wanted to leave Boston. I had to, though. My little boy was 2 years old at the time and I wanted to be there when he played soccer and T-Ball. I wanted to take him to swimming lessons and let him play on the slides at the playground. I grew up in Tewksbury. This was home and so I did what I needed to do.
Fortunately, The Suite Salons had just opened the spring before and there were spaces available. I moved into my little suite and quickly realized I needed more space. In July 2016 we opened the wall between my suite and the adjacent suite and doubled our size. The following February I brought on my assistant and this fall we took on another stylist. Julia also works in Boston and commutes back and forth from Tewksbury. We were quickly outgrowing our little space!
So what next?
In August of this year, I entered into negotiations with the owners of the former Hair N’ Now Salon in Wilmington to lease their salon space. Mark and Ana had owned the salon for many years and closing was certainly a very difficult decision for them. Hair N’ Now was a fixture on Route 62 in Wilmington and their clients were feeling the loss as well. They only knew one thing: They wanted the space to remain a salon if it all possible.
We are excited to announce that on January 3, 2018, Nicholas Scott Salon will open its new location at the former Hair N’ Now Salon, 333 Burlington Ave., Wilmington, just a few minutes from our present location. We will close for business for the last time at the Salon Suites on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Over the next few weeks leading up to the move, we will be sharing photos and updates as we transform Hair N’ Now into the new Nicholas Scott Salon.
We look forward to welcoming clients new and old alike and thank you for your patronage.

“You know my hair is curly right? You know it needs to be looked after differently that normal hair? You know you just cannot cut short layers into it? Why say you know when you don’t….” If only there was a salon that really understood what I need and how to look after my curly hair. Are your curls frizzy, ugly and unmanageable? Do you wish your stylist understood your hair type? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you’re going to want to keep reading!
So you have curly hair? Good. You are in the right place! Our client Karen is just like you. She has thick curly hair and never really knew how to manage or control it. She had been flat-ironing her hair since she was a little girl and all that heat abuse had left her hair even more damaged and frizzy. She was frustrated with her hair. In fact, she flat out hated her curls, and inside she just wanted to embrace the natural look of her curls. “It looks so nice when its wet!”
Somewhere along the way, she connected with a hair stylist who didn’t understand just how different curly hair is. They told her she needed layers to thin out her thick hair. She cut it with a razor and thinned it with texturizing shears. It took months to grow out the “mushroom” shape that resulted and the ends were completely fried. Now, she hated her curls even more. What to do?
Thankfully, she reached out to Nicholas Scott Salon, home of the curl experts (we love curly hair!). Here at Nicholas Scott, all of our stylists are trained and certified curly hair professionals. Partnering with DevaCurl has brought a full range of curly products and services right here to Tewksbury! So how did we accomplish this transformation? Curly hair is inherently dryer than straight hair. We performed a treatment to rid her hair of silicone and other toxins that could be a barrier to much needed moisture. Then using the signature Deva method, we applied Deva No Poo Decadence and One Condition Decadence with Deva ultra defining gel. It was like watching a parched plant soak up much needed water. Her hair sprung back to life!
We do this every single day, week after week. We love being the go to salon for curly hair. So if you need your curls saved, moisturized, bouncy, soft and gorgeous then give us a call at 978-801-0303 and set up your curl transformation today!

OK, SO YOU’VE MADE UP YOUR MIND. YOU WANT TO COLOR YOUR HAIR…BUT, THERE’S SO MUCH TO CONSIDER! WE WANT TO HELP SIMPLIFY THE PROCESS. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SITUATION IS, ONE MAIN FACTOR CONTRIBUTES TO ALL SUCCESSFUL HAIR COLORING: TO GET TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU’RE STARTING.
First, let’s talk about the two different types of hair color, Demi-Permanent and Permanent. All hair coloring services involve one of these types. The type you use will create different results and require different maintenance.
Demi-Permanent color gradually fades out, causing no line of regrowth, and it doesn’t require you to commit to coloring your hair forever. Demi-permanent hair color involves larger molecules than permanent hair color. The molecules only partially penetrate the hair shaft in most cases (overly porous hair can absorb more color than resistant textures).
Permanent hair color opens the cuticle with ammonia (or an ammonia derivative) and penetrates the cortex, lifting the preexisting color out and depositing the new color. One thing to keep in mind when using permanent hair color is, it doesn’t just fade out. You will get a regrowth line, and you will need to continue to see your colorist about every 4-6 weeks.
FOLLOWING ARE SOME TIPS THAT WILL MAKE COLORING YOUR HAIR A LITTLE EASIER.
“MY HAIR CURRENTLY HAS COLOR”
This is super common. When you have color in your hair already, it impacts the outcome of new color. It doesn’t matter if you colored it yesterday or last year, unless you cut that color out, it is still there even if you can’t see it. Let your colorist know; they’ll need to change the formula to get the desired color you want.
“I LOVE MY NATURAL HAIR COLOR, I JUST WISH IT WAS A LITTLE LIGHTER.”
Even though it seems like a small change, it’s still a totally different color. Lightening all of your hair requires the use of permanent hair color. The existing color will need to be lifted to add the new color because demi-permanent color doesn’t have the ability to penetrate and lift hair color.
“I JUST WANT TO ADD SOME DEPTH OR BRIGHTEN MY HAIR UP A LITTLE BIT”
Demi-permanent hair color would be great! At Nicholas Scott Salon, we use Colorance by Goldwell which is an ammonia-free option that could enhance your natural color, all while strengthening the hair and adding beautiful shine.
“MY HAIR HAS NEVER BEEN COLORED, BUT I REALLY WANT TO COVER THESE GRAYS.”
If you would like your gray hairs completely covered, you should use all-over permanent hair color. It completely removes any hint of gray. Now, all-over color with permanent dye may sound like something you could do yourself with box dye. More than likely, this is incorrect. Box dye can’t customize the formula to the correct mixture for your hair type and texture. It is more of a “one size fits all,” so it’s best to leave it to a professional.
“OKAY, TOTALLY COVERING THESE GRAYS MAKES ME NERVOUS.“
An all-over demi-permanent color is a great option here; it will blend your gray hair rather than completely cover it. Our Colorance line can cover up to 75% of gray hair and may be a good route to go, especially when it’s your first time with hair color.
Formulating the correct color for you is no easy task for your colorist, no matter how simple it may seem. Because we want to find the most successful and beautiful solution, any color appointment will begin with a detailed consultation. Examining your hair type, texture, current color, and sometimes doing a test strand helps us formulate the perfect color for you.
We’d love to hear from you and help you arrive at your desired hair destination. To schedule an appointment or consultation, or simply ask a question about your situation, call 978-801-0303
